Brown Midrib Sorghum Sudangrass Hybrid

6-R BMR is a Brown Midrib Sorghum Sudangrass Hybrid. It has significantly larger stems and wider leaves than typical Sorghum Sudangrass hybrids. This hybrid is approximately 10 days later to harvest than conventional Sorghum Sudangrass hybrids. With the BMR trait, improved quality of the forage is attained with direct results of significant increases in animal gain. Palatability of 6-R BMR is exceptional and livestock tend consume the plants closer to the ground which improves the quality and production of regrowth especially in a rotational grazing operation.

6-R BMR is a multipurpose hybrid that offers tremendous flexibility to producers. It can be used for direct pasture; hay, silage and even for grain if the need arises. This unique grain yielding Sorghum Sudangrass Hybrid is eligible for enrolment for loans and LDP through the USDA “Dual Purpose Grain Sorghum Varieties with 80 Percent Yield Potential.”

Plant height can range from 4-6 ft at boot stage and if left to maturity can reach 6-7 ft. If left to maturity this hybrid produces 3,000 – 5,000 lbs. of white grain free of tannins that can be sold directly on the grain market. If harvested for silage, 6-R BMR produces an excellent yielding silage crop with a high grain to stover ratio.
